Rowing Australia's Riggers Pilot Program Underway in Qld

Rowing Queensland is proud to be working in conjunction with Rowing Australia, Noosa Yacht and Rowing Club, Inspire Health Services, Commercial Rowing Club, Good Shepherd Lutheran College and Springwood State High School in developing a Sporting Schools Program that will one day be able to be implemented across the country. The aim of the Riggers pilot program is to find the most applicable and efficient way to provide more schools with better access to our sport. Rowing is presented to the students as a fun, sociable and safe sport to be a part of. Participation in sport is a great way for adolescents to refine motor skills, develop balance and build fitness as well as learning how to cooperate and communicate with fellow students in team-building situations.

Many schools and students lack the funding and location to make rowing an accessible pasttime, but with the cooperation and support of RA, AIS, clubs, schools and teachers, we are hoping that the Riggers program will be made more available to a larger range of schools students in the near future.

Students from Good Shepherd Lutheran College are taken out on the Noosa River by coaches from the Noosa Yacht and Rowing Club.

Springwood State High School studetns are shown the ropes on the Brisbane River by Inspire Health Services and Commercial Rowing Club.
